Coach Hilgs is originally from Laramie, Wyoming, where he was a two-time all-state performer on the hardwood for Laramie High School. He then started his collegiate career at Sheridan College and finished his playing career at Black Hills State University, where he served as a co-captain. Coach Hilgs earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Black Hills State and a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Concordia.

After graduating he started his coaching career at Concordia University (Nebraska) where he spent two years as a graduate assistant then served as the head coach of the junior varsity program for men’s basketball. In 2018-19, Hilgs served as the Director of Basketball Operations for Men’s and Women’s Basketball at Minot State University. After that he went to CSU Pueblo where he served as an assistant basketball coach.

Coach Hilgs brought his 6 years of experience at the college level to Collective and has coached at the high school levels the past three years. Specializing in player development, talent scouting, and college recruitment, Coach Hilgs also serves the role of Director for Collective. He oversees skills sessions, assists with practice plans, and ensures every player in the entire program is on the proper development path.
